Raffaele Conforti was a wealthy lemon grower of the Amalfi Coast who was born in Maiori in 1837. As the cultivation and the sale of lemons was the main commercial activity of the area, Raffaele Conforti enhanced the production of lemons and became one of the main exporters in Italy. His private house, completed by the middle of IX century, boasts a gorgeous hall and nine rooms individually decorated with lovely frescoed ceilings realized by the famous Coastal painters. In the room named The Muses beautiful feminine angels welcome the guests, while the Turkish room is characterized by dancing odalisques and Arabic themes. The furniture, dating back to the beginning of IX century, was ordered by Raffaele Conforti himself, as his correspondence with the well-known cabinetmaker Siano from Vietri sul Mare demonstrate.
Siano was very careful to details and to the distinctive features of each room. Even if the residence has been recently refurbished to provide the rooms with all the modern comforts, you can still breathe the intimate love for antiques and art objects.A quiet, elegant and relaxing atmosphere will take you back to ancient times in the marvellous setting of the Amalfi Coast.
